China is one of the most populated countries in the world. There are about 1.3 billion people
in China(1). Rapid growing population raised concern with the Chinese government. If
China’s population kept growing rapidly, this could lead shortage of food, water, job opportunities, education and basic needs. The Chinese fear that if population is not under controlled, their country will lead to poverty and war. The Chinese government develop the One Child Policy to help reduce the population growth by limiting couples to have only one child. Since the policy was introduced, there have been major controversy and drastic changes in China for the last 30 years. There has been horrible things happening to the girls in China. Couples believe that boys will give them security, continue the family name, earn more money, and will care for them when they get old. As for girls, they are going to marry into the husband’s family and take care of his family. Therefore, most couples desires to have a son. Because of boy are more vaulable than girls in the Chinese society, millions of girls are abandoned and killed each year.
